Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, Joe Barksdale, has always had a love, appreciation, and passion for music. When he was younger, he played both the violin and saxophone. It wasn’t until 2013 when he first picked up the guitar to help cope with a significant loss in his life. The guitar came natural, and just one year later he began playing with some of the best musicians in the city at local blues jams in St. Louis, MO. In 2016, Joe took his talents to San Diego, CA where he started ‘Joe’s Jam Session’ at Humphreys Backstage Live. The goal of the Jam Session was to bring out local artists and give them an opportunity to play, while also raising money and awareness for the Fender Music Foundation. Musically influenced by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Freddie King, The Beatles, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Alabama Shakes, George Benson, and Kirk Franklin, Joe is currently in the process of working on his first professional music project.
