Artist Profile - Mike "Krunch" Lucero

Bio

Playing guitar from the age of 12, Mike “Krunch” Lucero was heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin & Black Sabbath, he learned their songs & continued on to guitar lessons. Mike endured many things from his instructors, including music theory. By the age of 14 he was playing to live audiences & by 16 he was the teacher/influencer.
Early on Mike began to write his own music which separated him from the average guitarist. While most were learning songs Mike was busy writing them.  At the novice age of 22 Mike was already considered a veteran in the L.A. music scene. Winning guitar contests & battle of the bands helped his reputation amongst his peers.
In 1991 Mike’s attributes to the band Unorthodox was often heard on the, now defunct, KNAC radio station. Being played regularly on the local show and being given the rating as the most requested unsigned band, helped to create a bigger fan base. In 1993 Mike released his own 4-song E.P. and once again quickly captured attention on the KNAC local music show.
As the 90’s progressed so did Mike’s passion for great music. He began looking for more challenges, playing w/ various bands & musicians in an effort to gain insight & knowledge. Being versatile Mike played w/ a post-punk/alternative band which released 3 songs for an Indie Label E.P.  Time progressed & Mike decided his passion was in Grass Roots Metal & not the current project he was involved with. So he took what he learned from that experience & moved on.
Mike’s ear for tone and demand for quality early on earned him the nickname “Krunch” When Mike strikes a chord you know it’s him. His sound and style is distinct and hits you like a mule kick to the head. Mike firmly believes that having ability just isn’t enough, You need to have a good guitar tone as well.
Recently Mike reunited with his High School friends/band mates to reform Unorthodox. With the help of the internet & today’s technology long time followers, as well as other musicians, can now contact him. His enthusiasm for guitar and music is infectious, and is easily heard throughout his performance. He makes the hard work of being in a band rewarding.
