Gustavo Kölndorfer

G

I'm the son of 2 musicians; my father is a conductor, multi-musician and my mother is a classical pianist. I was born in São Paulo, Brazil, on April 18th, 1991.

At the age of 8 I moved with my family to the city of Sorocaba, where I was already passionate about music, learning to play a little percussion with my father. But I was always passionate about sports, so I devoted much of my childhood and teenage years playing basketball in amateur and pro leagues in Brazil. Subsequently I also dedicated myself to the Brazilian Football League (American football, not soccer).

When I was 21 years old, while still playing in the Brazilian Football League, I founded my first band, thus changing the course of my whole life.

At the same time, I got to know the Straight Edge movement, a lifestyle that saved my life and that I had already adopted a short time before my friends introduced me. With band members and friends in the music scene instructing me, I became Straight Edge, a lifestyle that I carry on with great pride to this day.

At the age of 22 I decided to return to my hometown of São Paulo, accepting invitations from other bands and dedicating myself more to my music career, thus forgoing my athletic career

Later at the age of 24, I received my first invitation from an American band and started working with them.

At the age of 25, I moved to the USA to dedicate myself even more to my career and to continue working with more bands.

Since moving to the US, I have had the opportunity to build partnerships and join several bands. A few that stand out are:

  • Spallah, a well-renowned band in Brazil, which allowed me to become internationally visible in the heavy metal genre.

  • The Medina Grooves, a band with a unique style that brought me from Brazil to the USA in 2016. We performed with Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy, Immolation, Hed PE, Allegaeon, Full Of Hell, etc. We released our EP, The Dreadlist, in 2018. I stopped working with The Medina Grooves in 2020.

  • Awake for Days, an Italian band I've been playing with as a touring guitarist since their US tour in 2019 with Cold but I became a official member in 2022.

Throughout 2020 and 2021 I stayed busy releasing material for my endorsements and recording for some bands. At the end of 2021 I released my solo career and I'm excited about it.
