Butch Coleman
Born in Baltimore, Butch has had some of the best Funk musicians to play with and learn from in the world. During his early years, he was a singer in a popular male singing group
called the “The Dynamite Five”. He was fortunate enough to have Rodney “Skeet” Curtis(Parliament Funkadelic, Brides of Funkenstein, Maceo Parker) on bass which is when he had the epiphany to become a bass player. Under the tutelage of Skeet, he was able to learn firsthand how to lay a funk groove. Playing along with childhood friends, such as Dennis Chambers afforded him the opportunity to include him on his own Independent Smooth Jazz Cd,” Night Sketches “along with his wife keyboardist/vocalist, Rhonda Coleman which was well received on the Smooth Jazz Charts in 2014 and throughout the world and also included in Expansion Records’ Luxury Soul compilation Cd from the UK, 2015. He plays bass for World renowned Baltimore City College Choir, who have toured Europe and performed at the prestigious, Carnegie Hall, New York. He played Bass on
“Break Free” a song recorded by Commited, winners of NBC’s music completion show, The Sing Off. He also played bass on recording artist Jessie J’s singles, “Price Tag”(which
reached number # 1 on the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand charts) and “Abracadabra”.
He has recently released the 3 rd CD along with his wife titled “Moment of Your Time. Included on this project is Dennis Chambers drums,(P-Funk, Mike Stern, Carlos Santana
Steely Dan), Greg Boyer, trombone(Maceo Parker, Prince, Eric Benet) Robert “WaWa” Legrand, guitar(Teddy Pendergrass, Aretha franklin, Chaka Khan, Ciara).
